Come Rain or Shine: A Water-Smart Summer Campaign Launches Amid Rising Drought Concerns Across the UK
Following the driest spring in over 100 years in England, the warmest and sunniest on record in Wales, the sixth driest in Scotland, and the hottest ever in Northern Ireland, water scarcity is fast becoming one of the most pressing environmental issues facing the UK.
With another dry summer expected and water-saving messages already emerging from several regions, Waterwise has launched Come Rain or Shine: A Water-Smart Summer; a national summer-long campaign designed to inspire households to take simple, fun and practical steps to reduce water waste.
Running throughout July and August, the campaign offers a suite of free downloadable activities for families, children, and educators to explore the importance of water conservation in everyday life, whatever the weather.
From rainwater harvesting DIY guides to summer-themed games and leaky loo checks, the campaign is packed with ways to make saving water easy, engaging and impactful.
Chloe McFarland, Campaign Manager at Waterwise, said:
“We’re already seeing the impacts of climate change on our water supply, and the past few months have been a stark reminder that dry conditions are no longer the exception, they’re becoming the norm.
Come Rain or Shine is about equipping people of all ages with the tools and knowledge to take action in a way that’s fun, family-friendly, and genuinely useful. Whether you’re in the middle of a heatwave or dodging summer showers, there’s something in the campaign for everyone. We’re really proud to launch it at such a crucial time.”
Chelsea McGrory, Brand and Marketing Manager at Yorkshire Water, said:
“With Yorkshire being declared in drought after the driest and warmest spring on record, and with hosepipe restrictions being put in place, the situation underlines just how vital it is that we all use water wisely. As sponsors of Waterwise’s Come Rain or Shine campaign, we’re proud to support a national effort to help people take simple, everyday steps to reduce water waste. These small changes can make a big difference, both this summer and for the long term.”
