Despite the UK’s rain drenched reputation, demand for fresh water increasingly outstrips supply. This creates a state of water scarcity, which has damaging environmental impacts. Despite this, water remains an undervalued, regularly wasted resource.
Waterwise, alongside Northumbrian Water and Groundwork East, is a key partner in the Water Literacy Programme – an initiative designed to develop, pilot, and evaluate a new Water Literacy Programme. This programme equips individuals and organisations with the knowledge and tools needed to change how they think about and use water.

The programme is built on research and expertise from industry professionals in the water and environmental sectors. It highlights the importance of valuing water, showing how small changes can reduce bills, protect the environment, and help tackle climate change.
The course is structured in three modules:
- The first two focus on research and understanding the issues.
- The final module provides clear, practical actions to help participants use water more efficiently.
