Waterwise is excited to announce the return of Water Night 2024, an annual initiative designed to inspire individuals, households, schools, and organisations across the UK to re-evaluate how we use and value water. This year’s event will take place on Thursday, 24th October 2024, from 5pm to 10pm.
The theme for this year is Tap Off, Tune In – a call to action for everyone to turn off all non-essential taps for five hours and take time to reflect on the importance of water, one of our most precious natural resources.
The challenge is simple yet impactful: pledge to switch off all non-essential taps between 5 pm and 10 pm on Water Night. By participating, you will be joining a nationwide movement to raise awareness about water conservation and help foster long-term habits that protect the environment.
- Core Message: “Water is life- let’s protect it. Pledge to turn off all non-essential taps from 5-10 pm and stand with us in honouring the most vital resource on Earth.”
- Influencer Support: Waterwise has partnered with eco-conscious influencers to amplify the campaign. Influencers will encourage their followers to take part in the #TapOffTuneIn Challenge and enter an exciting prize draw.
- Social Media Engagement: Waterwise invites everyone to share their participation on social media using the hashtag #TapOffTuneIn. Let’s create a wave of awareness across the nation!
Water Night 2024 presents an excellent opportunity for schools, businesses, and households to get involved in promoting water efficiency.
- Schools:
Schools across the UK are encouraged to host a Wear Something Blue Day, inviting students and staff to dress in blue to show their support for water conservation. Download your invitation letter [here] and explore our educational resources, which include a dedicated kids’ activity section.
Schools can also access a free downloadable School Water Audit, to help assess and improve their water usage and wastage.
- Organisations:
Businesses can participate by organising their own Wear Something Blue Day, encouraging employees to wear blue to stand in solidarity with the cause. Download posters and access additional online resources to support your efforts. - Homes:
Everyone at home is encouraged to join in! Complete a Home Water Audit here and discover water-saving hacks here. We also have resources here to help children learn about water use and reflect on how to conserve it.
As part of this year’s Water Night, iconic UK landmarks will be illuminated in blue on the evening of 24th October, symbolising efforts toward water conservation. Key landmarks participating in the light-up activation include:
- St Edmundsbury Cathedral, Bury St Edmunds
- Normanton Church, Rutland Water
- Mersey Gateway Bridge, Widnes
- Jumbo Water Tower, Colchester
Water Night is part of Waterwise’s ongoing mission to promote sustainable water use across the UK. This initiative aims to improve water knowledge while fostering behavioural changes that have a lasting impact on water consumption habits. Each year, Waterwise strives to build stronger communities of water-conscious citizens who understand the importance of conserving this vital resource.
