Waterwise Launches Smart Drop Certification in the UK, in Partnership with The Water Conservancy

Waterwise is proud to announce the official launch of Smart Drop UK, a trusted and independently assessed water efficiency certification for products not eligible for the UK’s forthcoming mandatory Water Efficiency Label. Developed and led by The Water Conservancy in Australia, Smart Drop Certification is now being introduced to the UK market exclusively through Waterwise.
Smart Drop is already well-established in Australia and North America as a recognised certification for water-saving products and services. It offers manufacturers and suppliers the ability to demonstrate the water efficiency of their products, supported by robust, independent assessment and international credibility. The label helps consumers to shop wisely and provides a market advantage for businesses.
In the UK, Smart Drop Certification will only be available to Waterwise Affiliates – either through the Product Affiliate package or as an additional option under the Engagement Affiliate package.
“We’re so pleased to bring Smart Drop to the UK with Waterwise,” said Chris Philpot, CEO of The Water Conservancy. “Smart Drop provides a unique and credible way to identify and promote water-efficient products that don’t fall under mandatory labelling schemes. This international expansion builds on over 20 years of success in Australia and, more recently, North America. We’re proud to partner with Waterwise to support the UK’s water efficiency goals.”
The Smart Drop certification process includes assessment by an expert panel, which meets quarterly and includes representation from the UK. Once approved, companies gain the right to display the Smart Drop Certified logo on their packaging, websites, marketing materials and more – highlighting their commitment to sustainability and responsible water use.
Products must meet strict criteria to be certified, including independently verified water-saving performance, compliance with UK regulations, and environmental sustainability.
Nicci Russell, CEO of Waterwise, said:
“We know we need to use water more efficiently in the UK – we’re running out of water, and nothing happens without water – and that’s why we’re so excited to be partnering with The Water Conservancy on Smart Drop. The upcoming mandatory Water Efficiency Label will be a game changer, but there are many innovative and impactful water-saving products that won’t be covered by that scheme. Smart Drop gives these products a credible, evidence-based way to stand out. It’s a natural fit for Waterwise Affiliates, and another way we’re helping people and organisations to value water.”
The Smart Drop Certification is available at a discounted rate for Waterwise Affiliates. New organisations can access both Smart Drop Certification and a year of Product Affiliate membership for £2,000.
